the sun enters sidereal cancer on july 16, joining jupiter and in opposition to pluto retrograde in sidereal capricorn, and this solar month brings our attention to the direct relationship we have with inheritance in all of its forms.
as the exaltation of jupiter, cancer reveals how emotional depth can be the gateway to spiritual insight and growth and how feeling can become wisdom. as the fall of mars, cancer teaches us how to strike the delicate balance of knowing when to act and respond and when to retreat, how to protect and how to defend, and how to strategize emotionally so that we move in ways that honor both instinct and intuition. as the detriment of saturn, cancer represents the difficulty of building firm structures with an abundance of feeling. discipline can easily become self-denial; however, saturn in cancer presents the opportunity to construct the emotional architecture and containers needed to hold vulnerability, strength, and tenderness simultaneously.
cancer illuminates themes of ancestry, kinship, memory, lineage, and generation + continuation of life, while pluto in capricorn extracts + excavates the legacies that are embedded within institutions, corporations, governments, and systems of authority. together, this axis pushes us to confront what’s been passed down through our families, cultures, communities, and collective histories and remember that every inheritance carries something within it. some inheritances preserve wisdom, stewardship, resilience, strong communal values, and wealth, while others perpetuate exploitation, extraction, greed, domination, silence, injustice, rot, and debt.
as jupiter amplifies the sun’s light, this season is one where what’s been buried becomes increasingly difficult (bordering on impossible) to ignore, and it’s an opportunity to examine the karmic patterns we’ve inherited (consciously and unconsciously, by force or by choice) and the consequences (positive, negative, and otherwise) that come with addressing, correcting, severing, ignoring, and/or continuing them. this season also previews the sidereal capricorn-cancer nodal axis that begins in december with the solar eclipse in sidereal cancer on august 12.
