exploring jupiter retrograde in sidereal taurus: october 9, 2024 - february 4, 2025
on october 9, jupiter began its retrograde in sidereal taurus until its direct station on february 4, 2025. over this 119 day span, jupiter will encourage us to revisit major themes of this transit and continue our reality (re)shaping journeys.

reshaping reality with jupiter requires freeing ourselves from restrictive dogma and ideological constructs that serve as tools of oppression of the body, mind, spirit, and soul. jupiter encourages us to take leaps of faith that may not always ‘make sense’ when perceived through the limitations of our logic and rationality but align with something far greater when understood as a part of our responsibility to our soul.
jupiter in fixed earth is showing us what’s possible when we are slow to adapt to inevitable change, when conformity to the in-group takes precedence over true inclusivity of difference, and when we have exceeded the limits of consumption, material greed, and moral apathy. though jupiter is considered the greater benefic, that doesn’t mean jupiter only brings increase of good. jupiter will expand, grow, enlarge, proliferate, and stretch all it touches, for better or worse.
what’s sad about apathy is that it’s never an easy decision to make. it’s the kind of surrender you don’t realize you’ve consciously chosen because it feels so much like giving in. it’s the type of giving in where mere thoughts of fighting and resisting trigger all the fears you faced the last time you had hope. apathy’s when you’re no longer curious or imaginative, when the hope for whatever tomorrow brings ceases to exist. it’s a crushing type of passive ideation that disconnects you from everything around you.
at its worst, we witness how “manifest destiny"-type ideologies and political alignments grow into fascism, authoritarianism, wealth hoarding, ecological collapse triggered by the belief that we can have it all and do whatever we want with no consequence. jupiter in fixed earth shows us what happens when we don’t honor the natural boundaries of growth set by the material reality we live in.
yes, there is enough for everyone, but if it’s not shared, what’s the point?
through its square with saturn in sidereal aquarius, jupiter in taurus is feeling constricted, reminded of the very real boundaries and containers that exist. we share the air. we share the planet. we are society. we are the global community. we are responsible for the actions we take towards creating our future, and equally responsible for the consequences that our inaction may bring. there’s no bypassing that we’re interconnected.
the taurus-aquarius square emphasizes the interaction between the physical and metaphysical. taurus is the every day natural world and aquarius is the metaphysical structure embedded within it. the consciousness and interconnectivity of life. this square also highlights: conventional vs unconventional, conformity vs non-conformity, social norms vs societal progression, and in-group vs outcasts.
with the outer planets retrograde and playing the background, we’re witnessing on a mass scale what happens with unexpected and shocking changes to our stability, finances and economy, environment and climate (uranus in taurus), the dissolution of the illusions of separation and spiritual & religious crisis (neptune in pisces), and the collapse and destruction of infrastructures and organizations that are no longer sustainable (pluto in capricorn). pluto will be the first of the outer planets to station direct on october 11, slowly continuing this process.
the beauty of the outer planets is that they don’t need us to do anything except accept the truth of their function and action in our collective stories. there is no stopping the inevitable and the necessary. the outer planets are unresponsive to our bargaining and denial, while the transpersonal planets (jupiter and saturn) grant us the opportunity to shape our reality more directly.
within society, jupiter is where we establish and expand upon the codes of conduct, morals, ethics, religious values, ideologies, and principles that develop as a response to containing our more primitive impulses. our collective relationship to jupiter has steadily changed as we’ve created some semblance of separation of church and state, but there are always lingering remnants of the original paradigm. as we’re living through a rise in Christian nationalism, fascism, and witnessing the many expanding intersections of oppressive ideologies, jupiter is who we look towards to determine what’s possible. as we reshape reality, jupiter’s medicine reminds us to see past the current moment of today and into tomorrow, to borrow promises from the future that are reached through the power of faith and belief.
